Understanding Water Tanks

A water tank is a container designed to collect and store rainwater or water from other sources, such as wells or boreholes. These tanks come in various shapes, sizes and materials, including polyethylene, steel and concrete. They are used to supplement mains water supply, reduce reliance on external water sources and conserve water during periods of drought.

The Benefits and Types

  • Water Conservation: Harvesting rainwater reduces the demand on mains water supply, conserving precious resources and lowering water bills.
  • Self-Sufficiency: With a water tank, you have a reliable source of water for various purposes, including gardening, livestock and emergency use.
  • Environmental Impact: Using rainwater for irrigation and other non-potable purposes reduces runoff and pollution, benefiting the environment.
  • Water Quality: Rainwater is naturally soft and free from chemicals, making it ideal for watering plants and washing clothes.

What’s Popular?

Some of the popular brands of water tanks in Australia include Bushman Tanks, Pioneer Water Tanks and Kingspan Water Tanks. These brands offer a wide range of sizes to suit different needs, from small residential tanks to large-scale commercial systems.

Common sizes of Water Tanks

  • Slimline Tanks: These tanks are tall and narrow, making them suitable for tight spaces or along the side of a building.
  • Round Tanks: Available in various diameters and heights, round tanks offer versatility and can hold large volumes of water.
  • Underground Tanks: Buried beneath the ground, these tanks are ideal for properties with limited space or aesthetic considerations.

Common Issues with Water Tanks

  • Leaks or Cracks: Over time, tanks may develop leaks or cracks due to age, wear and tear, or improper installation.
  • Blockages: Debris, sediment, or algae can accumulate in the tank, causing blockages in the inlet, outlet, or overflow pipes.
  • Pump Malfunctions: Issues with the pump, such as loss of pressure or failure to prime, can affect the tank’s performance.
  • Overflow Problems: Inadequate overflow systems or clogged overflow pipes can lead to water overflow and potential water damage.

We have been in the IRRIGATION & PUMPING industry now for about 50 years.

We have experience in Hydroponics systems, with many years of a successful family hydroponic market garden farm. We are from a farming background, ie Irrigation for olive orchards, vineyards or home vegetable patches & gardens etc.

Setting up adequate water facilities for livestock is also one of our specialties.

We understand every application required for pumps and spare parts. We only sell major brand pumps: DAB pumps, Wilo pumps, Davey pumps, Lowara pumps, Grundfos pumps and Orange pumps as we know they are reliable and if pump repairs are needed, parts can be sought. Depending on the problem, our turn around for the repairs is a day or so. We have a large facility to repair any type of pump repairs QLD. We can also service and repair pumps in the field. We do have loaner pumps if pumps cannot be repaired on site.

Allabout Pumps & Pipes installed a system at the Broadbeach Bowls Club to catch their storm water pumps. This system directs the stormwater back into their water-table, then using spear-pumps and special irrigation fittings system, their lawns are watered. This has greatly reduced their water bill. A huge saving for the club & its members. Other bowling clubs are now very interested in our system.

This year, with its unprecedented, unseasonal heavy rainfalls for the last 6 months, has brought many & various challenges & heartache to so many residents and nurseries. We have been able to assist several nurseries and hinterland residents with repairs to their flooded pumps. While their pumps were being repaired, we installed our loaner pumps.
